About Rebecca
Rebecca Avern is an internationally renowned paediatric acupuncturist with over 24 years of experience. As the author of two books, including a standard textbook on paediatrics used in acupuncture colleges worldwide, she is a trusted authority in her field. Rebecca also teaches paediatrics to acupuncturists across the UK, Europe, America, and Australia, sharing her expertise on a global stage.
With decades of experience and thousands of children helped, Rebecca combines exceptional clinical skill with an extraordinary ability to connect with her young patients. Her warmth, empathy, and talent for putting children at ease make her uniquely suited to provide the highest standard of care.
When she is not in clinic, teaching or writing, Rebecca can usually be found with her family and friends, ideally by the sea in Cornwall with the sun shining!
Expertise & Achievements
Education
Rebecca holds a Licentiate in Acupuncture from the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, graduating in 2001 after three-and-a-half years of intensive training in both traditional Chinese and Western medicine. In 2012, she earned a Diploma in Paediatric Acupuncture following advanced training with world-renowned expert Julian Scott.
Professional Contributions
In 2023, Rebecca was awarded the honour of becoming a Fellow of the British Acupuncture Council, recognising her significant impact on the field of paediatric acupuncture. She is also the author of two highly regarded books on paediatric acupuncture, further cementing her reputation as a leader and educator in her profession.
Further Training
Rebecca has trained with renowned figures in Chinese medicine, including four years with the late Giovanni Maciocia, assisting in his textbook Diagnosis in Chinese Medicine. She is a Certified Shonishin Acupuncturist, trained by Dr. Thomas Wernicke, and completed the Yaoshan Chinese Herb Program with Dr. Evan Rabinowitz. She continues to study, constantly improving her skills to treat children effectively.
Founder and Visionary
Rebecca founded the Hub of Paediatric Acupuncture (HOPA), an international platform connecting parents with trusted resources and a global directory of qualified practitioners, while providing acupuncturists with support. She also established The Little Acupuncture Room, a Community Interest Company in Oxford offering low-cost, multi-bed treatments for children, run by a team of seven practitioners.
